Hammersmith Apollo is a nice place. It's very wide, but not very long. The speakers were either side of the stage, standing taller than most rooms in a regular home. The first of the two support acts were "The Blackout" from south Wales. My first encounter with them was not a good one. But this one? This was great. Great guitars, a balance of singing and screaming vocals, great lighting, christmas lights, blonde/pink hair and crazy microphone swings all add up to make a good thing. The Second support band - "Bring Me The Horizon" were not so good. They are best described as Slightly Organised Noise. They walk on stage - hairstyles that look like a skunk - and begin to pound away at the drums. This was syncronised with heavy guitar, pounding bass and head banging. Then come the deep screaming vocals. They were full of themselves. This was evident by the way they moved arounf the stage and constantly asked for mosh pits. Even two circles and a wall of death. They were'nt so good. Then came th main act - Lostprophets. Truthfully, me and my friend were the first two people to spot them. We were at the left hand side, and they entered stage right. They walked through the door and stood at the side, getting filled in on everything by the technicians. When they finally entered, they walked on stage and got to their instruments/microphones. The first song? "The New Transmission" Now, this seems like a weird opening song, but it worked. The crowd were singing along all the way, cameras were out and cheers filled the air as the six banners fell from the ceiling. This went straight into their most recent single - "Can't catch tomorrow (good shoes won't save you this time)" The crowd seemed to love this (i know i did) and it worked incredibly well. Other songs played included; (Not in order) Rooftops Broken hearts and torn up letters 4:AM Forever The Fake Sound of Progress Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja To Hell We Ride Last Summer Last Train Home Sway Going Underground (cover) Ode to Summer (crowd favoured thsi to "Five is a Four Letter Word) Everyday Combat A Town Called Hipocrisy Sound: 9 Lighting: 9 Fun: 9 Overall: 9 |
