Jarren was sitting at the bar of the local pub. He had his hood up, and he was immersed in the ale that sat before him. He was having a rough day, having dreamt about his former life, causing him to wake up in a fit of tears. Jarren sighed and reached out, picking up the cup of ale, and bringing it to his lips. Jarren drank long from it, closing his eyes, as the liquid slid down his throat. Jarren slammed the cup down on the counter, and wiped at his mouth. He looked to the barkeep, and witout saying a word, the man filled the cup up for him. Jarren slammed some money on the bar, and nodded his thanks to the bartender. Jarren's thoughts drifted back to the night he came home from the hunt. He had known something was wrong when he entered his town to find it mostly desserted, well at least everyone inside. Although it was almost ten years ago, that night was still etched in his mind, and not about to go anywhere. |

Lyssie walked into the bar, her deep purple cloak drawn around her shoulders, it's hood up. Walking over to the bar, she sat down and pulled her hood down, letting her dark, curly brown locks spill out over her shoulders. She sighed, thinking of how her sister and brother were faring. She ordered and ale and put her money on the counter, then took a long draw on her ale. She sighed once more, her dark brown eyes clouded over. |

Jarren's eyes were drawn to a dark figure as she sat down at the bar. He looked back to his drink, but he was drawn to this woman. She was beautiful, and seemed to be in a mood, perhaps such as his. He shook his head, and went back to his brooding. Jarren reached for his ale, bringing it back to his lips, he emptied the cup drinking it's dark contents. Jarren slammed the cup down, and waved the bartender off when he went for another. Jarren had finished his fourth of the night, and that was usually his limit. Jarren removed his hood, his long brown hair, unkempt and oily. Jarren hardly even bathed anymore, not finding the use. He looked to the woman once more, not being able to help but stare. She reminded him of Sylvia and that caused him some measure of joy, as he looked at her. He quickly turned his gaze to the bar, not wanting to be caught staring but he could not help but stare. |

Feeling somebody's eyes on her, Lyssie looked up. It made her feel nervous when somebody was watching her, much too much like the night her mother was taken away. She looked once more as she heard a cup slam on the counter. Looking over her shoulder at the man next to her. "Rough night?" she asked wearily. |

Jarren turned to face the woman, as he heard her speak to him. Her eyes were beautiful, though held a bit of there own misery and secrets. "Yes." he said, his gruff voice making him sound older then he was. Jarren ran a hand through his dark hair, and rubbed the grease on his pants disgustedly. He really needed a bath, and he would take one sometime soon he thought. "I'm sorry, I was staring." he admitted. Jarren wasn't normally the type to star, though he was even less the type to admit it. "You remind me of my wife, it will not happen again." he said. Jarren turned back to face the bar, seeing that the bartender had refilled his cup anyways. His eyes were once again drawn to the woman and he sighed. "You seem to be in a way yourself." he said. |

Lyssie nodded. "Me too." she agreed with a sigh, shaking her hair out of her face. She took another draw on her ale. She would have to be careful not to drink too much, she would get drunk easily. She nodded again, her face blank, and though her eyes sad, her cheeks rosy. "It's alright... it just makes me nervous sometimes." she said quietly. She looked up at the mention of his wife. "Why aren't you with her?" she asked curiously. |

Jarren looked down to the full cup of ale, and picked it up in his left hand. He raised it to his lips, and held when she asked why he was not with his wife. Jarren sighed and put the cup down on the counter. "She's dead." he said gruffly. Jarren lifted the cup back to his lips, and downed the entire ale in one chug. He sighed again, this conversation causing him to feel depressed and lonely again. A feeling that has haunted Jarren since he lost his family. Jarren put his hands to his head and looked down at the bar. "She was killed with the rest of my family by the Ra'zac." he said. Jarren blamed himself for there death, though he didn't know why they were killed, he assumed that he was the intended victim of the attack. |

Lyssie blinked, looking at him with sad brown eyes. "I'm sorry." she said truthfully, tucking her hair behind her ears. She took a sip of ale, finishing it off before getting another glass. "My own family was killed by the empire." she admitted, taking a long draw on her drink. "Dad was killed by urgal, King Galbatorix ordered the capture of my mother. I raised my siblings." she continued, sighing. |

Jarren's mood was not improved by the words of this woman. Jarren looked over at the woman and tried to appear understanding, though he didn't think he had it in him anymore. "I am sorry to." he said. "The empire is a horrid place, and should be brought to the ground." he said. Jarren felt a bit of comfort from talking to this woman, but not enough to take him from his drink. |

A wan, rare smile graced Lyssie's face... almost mona lisa like. She nodded. "Thats why I'm for the Varden." she agreed with a sigh. She looked around the bar and downed her second glass of ale before getting another. At this rate she'd be drunk by the end of the hour. |

Jarren laughed, the laft sounding oddly foreign to his own ears. "Yes, well that makes sense." he said. "I wouldn't expect you to be in Surda, if you favored the Empire." he added. Jarren looked back down to the bar, the alcohol causing him to be more tired then he had any right to be. |

Lyssie chuckled slightly. "Well, I was born and raised for about 5 years in the Spine of the empire, then my parents, so I moved to Surda with my younger brother and sister." she said with a shrug taking another long drag on her ale. |

Jarren had never heard of the spine but nodded anyways. "That sounds... exciting." he said. Jarren was never one who was good with words, even before his family was killed, but he hadn't spoken more then a few words to anyone since he'd been in Aberon. "My name is Jarren." he told her. No last name, no explanation, that was his way, simple and direct. |

Lyssie chuckled. "It's a large, dangerous forest that most people avoid." she explained, tucking her hair behind her ear. She had loved growing up in the spine when she was little. Sure there may have been some pretty dangerous things in there but there was one thing that couldn't hurt her there the way they could now: Words. She inclined her head. "Lyssie." she introduced herself quietly, yawning and taking another draw on her ale. |

Jarren's intereste was piqued at the mention of the word forrest. He was still a hunter, and the idea of fierce prey excited him. Jarren thought it must be the alcohol that made him attempt to carry on the conversation with this girl. "That sounds interesting." he said. "I'm a hunter." he added. |
