Sai looked at the man for another second after he answered then nodded, excepting the answer. "So how did you get involved with the Varden?" He asked looking at the sky. Sai didn't speak for a long second. How had she gotten involved with the Varden? It had been a long time ago when Cey had told her about the Varden and the Empire. The calm face had looked down on Sai. It had been before Nyre and Hvord, so Sai had gasped at the horror of the King. It seemed like a distant memory, that time, that...feeling. Like a figure blurred and unrecognizable through mist and smoke. Finally Sai spoke. "I was raised by a Varden member." She stated simple. It had been a long while since she had seen that woman. "My parents gave me to her, she wouldn't tell me who though." Sai added. She tried to arrange her face in a sad or lonely expression, but it didn't work quite right she thought so she gave up trying to act normal. She would be spending a long time with this man, he would find out sometime. "What about you?" She asked, trying to turn the conversation away from herself, a subject she didn't like. Sai's horse was moving under her. A little faster then it had in the city. She and her horse could keep this up from a fraction over a day. |

Jacob listened to the girl's story as they trotted along. That'd suck, never knowing your parents. Jacob looked over at Sai, apparently not, Jacob thought seeing that Sai showed no emotion. Jacob kind of hoped that she would at least look sad. I guess she can't afford emmotions in her line of work. Jacob was taken by surprise when Sai asked him about his life, it was not that he didn't expect her to, he had just been in deep thought. "Well, my mother and father are Imperial nobles and I'm a guy, it was only natural that I be a soldier. My brother chose the infantry but I chose to be a knight 'cause I felt that there was more glory in it. After a few years I met a girl, she was Varden, and she turned me." Jacob laughed at this, he had made it sound like she was out on a mission to do it. "Actually, we kind of fell in love and I knew she wouldn't have anything to do with the Empire so I had to switch sides." Jacob left the part out about him not knowing a thing bout where Arabelle was. "Do you ever show emotion? That story about your parents... I mean, it sounded a little sad, not knowing your parents and all..." Jacob stopped right where he was, hoping he hadn't gone to far to early. |

Sai smiled as Jacob told his story (thought there was nothing in the gesture). It would have been nice to have known what that felt like. But the moment passed as she looked at him as he questioned her again. Observant She noted to herself. He had already picked up on the fact of her...condition. "I don't have emotions." She stated simple. It wasn't sad or lonely, or even a side along comment. It was just a fact to her, nothing more. "I don't even know...how-" she thought that was the best word, "to feel how you feel." She added, her green eyes staring into Jacobs. She tried to explain as best she could that when he talked of love she felt nothing. It was just a word to her, something to describe a state of being of normal people. When she would complete a mission, that was all it was. There was no glory in it for her as Jacob had said there was for him. And when she thought about it she wasn't wistful or envious, just slightly curious about the feeling. When Cey had tried to describe how she felt about Sai she had said, "It's like a feeling in your gut, something that fills you like wine." But this had made little sense to Sai then, and didn't still. |

Jacob listened to the Sai and began to kind of feel sorry for her. Sure, being sad sucked but Jacob would take that over not having any emotions at all. Jacob turned his gazed away from the girl and looked at the passing ground. What to talk about? Jacob wondered. I'll let her talk some more if she wants, and if not then I won't talk. |

Sai noted the mans silence but didn't break it. Talking wasn't one of her strong points. She tapped her heels gently against her horse and it move a little faster. The more ground they covered the better. She wasn't a patient person when there was work that needed to be done. If we continued at this pace, we'll never get there in time. She thought to herself. For there was more to the mission then Sai had told Jacob. A lot more. Something that would bring the Varden closer to an answer then ever. That was the reason she needed Jacob, but she wouldn't tell him...until the end. After a couple more minutes. Sai looked at Jacob, his features stood out from the pastel colored landscape. "Where is she?" She finally asked. She had noticed that Jacob had talked of a girl, but that he hadn't thought of her as he contemplated leaving with her. "The girl you talked about." Sai looked at him questioningly, wondering. |

Jacob noticed that Sai was beginning to pull ahead of him, so he nudged his horse on. "Where is she?" came a question from Sai as Jacob caught up to her. "The girl you talked about." Jacob sighed, this girl was smart. Jacob contemplated on wether he should tell her or not and finally decided he should. After all, to Jacob's knowledge, Sai had been honest with him. "I don't know, to be honest. We were running from some Imperial soldiers and were trapped in a barn. A friend and me held them off and gave her enough time to escape. I have an idea about where she might be, but it is to dangerous to try and find her now." Jacob closed his dry eyes for a few seconds and then continued. "I plan on trying to find her in a few months, that will make it a year since I last saw her." |

Sai thought about this story for a second, then looked at the man. He was very interesting. Why hadn't he gone after her right away? Who was the other person with him and why wasn't he with him now? But she decided not to comment on those facts yet. "And you'll start at the barn?" Sai asked. It seemed like the most reasonable place to start. If she was looking for someone she would start at the place they had last been seen. The sky had lightened a little. It was going to be morning soon. Sai let her eyes wounder across the landscape. There wasn't a time of day or that would be safe for them. "What does she look like?" Sai asked, they could keep an eye out. Seeing as it was a long journey then maybe they would hear news. |

"No, I don't plan to start at the barn. She loved the sea, everything about it. I plan to start at Aroughs and make my way up the coast to Teirm." Jacob paused. Somewhere birds started to chirp. Dawn, Jacob thought without even looking up at the sky. "What does she look like?" Jacob sighed did he even remember? Brown hair, Jacob knew that. Now what color had Arabelle's eyes been? Blue, blue like the ocean. "You want to know the funny thing? I don't really remember. I remember her brown hair and blue eyes, that's all." Jacob looked over at Sai to see her reaction. There was none. "Why do you ask?" |

He didn't remember? Though this confused Sai ever so slightly she didn't show it. For she almost never forgot a face. "I ask, Jacob, because you can never be too observant. If you really are going to look for her why not keep an eye out even now?" She said. Her bright green eyes still wondered. Grass-three bushes-one large rock, grass- hill... She registered every feature of the landscape. Sai highly trained mind unconsciously looked for the best places to hide, fight and where possible enemies might be coming from. Suddenly there was a movement to her right. A band of people, or at least she thought so, were coming from behind a boulder. "Jacob, watch them, but keep moving." Sai didn't want to draw attention to them. She jerked her head slightly in there direction. |

"I guess you have a point," Jacob conceded. Watch who? Jacob thought when Sai told him to watch out. Without moving his head, he looked around. There they were, infront of them. As far as Jacob could tell there were about eight people. Unconsciously, Jacob reached for the handle of his sword. Good, it was still in its sheath. Then the sun caught one of them and glinted off, they had armor... "We must have must have just passed the border. They are most likely Imperials, let me handle this." Jacob kicked his horse and galloped out infront of Sai. "Halt!" came a shout from one of the men. They were still a coule of hundred yard away so Jacob couldn't make out if they had the Imperial crest on their breast plates or not. Jacob held up his hand, a signal for Sai to slow down. Jacob pulled on the reings, bringing the horse to a walk. "What do you want Sargeant? and annoyed Jacob asked the men when they got closer. Jacob reached into his saddle bags pulling out his helmet. "I'm on your side!" |

Sai looked at Jacob, one eyebrow raise. She didn't question what he was doing, it could be what she would have done. She thought it was funny he would take this root. What exactly was he going to say she was? A wife? She wasn't exactly wife material. Anyway he would have left her at home. So, she jumped in herself as she usually did, she like have some influence. "And I as well. Glarida at your service." She added at a few quizzical looks from the men. She shifted slightly in her saddle so she looked her best. It never hurt to be pretty. Her hazel hair fell in waves of brown down her back and her emerald eyes glittered from her angled clear face. |

Jacob cautiously glanced at Sai when she spoke. Didn't I tell her I would handle this? Oh well. Jacob studied the men's faces, they were now more at ease than they had been. "Yes, she is my sister," Jacob stated, looking over at Sai. "And if you are an Imperial, why have you just come from Surda?"one of the men asked. "I was born in Surda as was the rest of my family and we lived there all of our livs. It wsn't because we were loyal to Surda, no, we just had everything there and felt no need to move. Until I joined the army, that it and now that war has broken out, I was just smuggling my sister over the border." After a pause, the Sargeant sighed and said, "alright, go on." "That was a little to close, "Jacob noted when they had gotten out of range from the soldiers." |

Sai smiled inwardly at Jacob. Sister, that was a good one. Then Jacob spun the tale of there sad lives. After that story the guards were happy to let them go on their merry way. Yes, poor us ,Sai couldn't help but think. They moved away slowly again, the soldiers moving in the other direction. "That was a little to close." Jacob commented. Sai raised an eyebrow. It could have been worse. She had seen situations get so much closer. Then she blinked slowly, no point in arguing. "No harm done," she said. As long as she got threw Sai thought the situations was a positive one. She sighed. They need to move faster. The soldiers were almost out of sight and Sai didn't have any time to waste. "Come on, were working on a schedule." She tapped her horses sides and sped up. And so the day went by. Sai rode quickly across the grass. She let her mind wander. They pasted few other people on the road. They saw no more soldiers. At first she just focused on riding and her surroundings. Then her mind began to wander. She thought of her job. It would be easy, no where near as hard as some the Varden had given her before. Sai wondered what Jacob would do. She guessed she would never know. She blinked green slowly. Her musing carried on throughout the day. Slowly the sun rose, then began to fall as she and Jacob rode. ((Kk, i'm not sure what should happen while we ride. I'm happy to just glaze over that part, also, if you give me a second I will be more then happy to think of a plot point or too. )) |

OOC. Alright, I'll "glaze over it." For three days Sai and Jacob rode, covering leagues upon leagues. The riding, as Sai had promised, was hard but manageable. They awoke before the sun rose and rode into the night. They ate lunch, which consisted of cheese and bread, in the saddle. Sai and Jacob had sparse spurts of conversation but, for the most part, kept to themselves. Finally, on the third night, the capital Uru'baen came into view. They camped outside of the city, knowing that the gates would be closed at night. As Jacob threw a little stick he had been fiddling with he looked over at Sai. "So, what exactly am I supposed to do when we get to the city? Do I head back to Surda or am I expected to stay until you need to return to Surda?" Jacob paused and picked up another stick. "I'll do either and be more than happy about it." |

Sai contemplated the question for a second. She could find someone else to help her, oddly she didn't want to. She wondered... "A woman traveling alone is conspicuous," Sai said bluntly. "For the first day I'm going to learn as much as I can. Then I have a... for lack of a better word- friend I need to speak to. After, there are a few specific things I need to do and get. Then back to Surda." Sai blinked slowly, then looked at Jacobs face. Here eyes were unfocused. Not actually seeing him. Then she snapped out of her revere. "I'm not sure how long it will take." Then she turned and stared at the city. Her mind was elsewhere. It had been a long time since she had seen the city. It's large walls seemed to be reaching out, engulfing her, smothering her. Sai shivered, then turned back to her companion. "I've killed 198 people by accident." Her voice was monotone, she didn't know why she said it. It was like someone had set a fire in her insides. She shook of the sensation, not sure what to make of it herself. She lay down and rolled over. Soon she was asleep. There was red blood covering the floor. Screams were echoing around her. Salty tears. Fear. She was running, her brown hair flying wildly. The tower was dark and cold. A door, wooden. Quickly, she must be fast. "Sai!" a voice. They were calling her, but she didn't stop. Her hands were bloody. She hadn't meant it to happen. She opened the door and slammed it behind her. Up the stairs, up the stairs. Fresh air. The roof. She could see them all around her. Soldiers. "Sai! Help!" She saw them. Fighting. Blood. Death. They were going to die. She hadn't meant to. Please. Sorrow. Then they were all around her. She had fought as hard as she could. Bonds, chaining her. Pain. Hot pokers. Needles under her fingernails. Knifes. Her friends screaming. Her friends pleading. Her friends dieing. Wishing for death. Emptiness. Sai yanked a dagger from her belt and put it to a soldiers throat, growling. A cold sweat covered her body. She was so angry. Terrible angry. Then suddenly it was all gone. She couldn't move. Her eyes widened. Jacobs throat was under her knife. Sai didn't feel anything. She sat there frozen. It had come so close. |
